A home cook has come forward with an incredible trick to get more done in half the time. Because people have been stuck at home throughout the coronavirus pandemic, home cooks have had a lot of success on social media, sharing their tips and tricks to make life a little bit easier. One home cook came forward with an ingenious way of cooking two meals at the same time using one slow cooker – and this is going to be one kitchen hack that you’ll want to memorize forever.
The trick is actually quite simple. All you need to cook two meals at the same time in the same slow cooker are separate bags to keep the meals separated while they cook. When the trick first made its way online, other home cooks were also impressed with the idea and how easy it was to execute.
“I tried the oven bag idea, and I love it! So easy!” the home cook said. She revealed that she made beef Massaman curry and butter chicken at the same time in the same slow cooker. This meant that she was able to cut down on half the cooking time because she didn’t have to run the machine twice.
“Placed all ingredients in respective bags, set and forget for four hours on auto. [The] chicken and beef were both cooked to tender – easiest way to get out the bag is to pour into a jug and then serve.”
If you want to jump on the bandwagon with this cooking hack, you’ll need to get some slow cooker liners. You can find these online from retailers, including Amazon, where they’re available to purchase for as little as fifteen dollars. These bags not only allow you to cook two meals at the same time, but you can also make clean up a breeze since you just have to toss or wash out the bag once the slow cooker does what it does best – cook your meal until it is tender and delicious.
Choose bags that are designed for use within a slow cooker. If you try to cheat and use another type of bag, you may experience an accident or have it break while cooking. This could be a big mistake that ends up causing quite the mess that you’ll have to clean up.
There are also more environmentally-friendly bags that are available to you. These are reusable silicon bags that are also available online from major retailers, including Amazon. These bags may cost a bit more upfront but will end up saving you money in the long run – as well as helping reduce your environmental impact – because you can use them again and again.
The idea inspired many people online – some of whom shared comments on the original video.
“Genius!! My husband always moans that I never cook anything spicy (myself and the kids don’t like it) will be searching for these,” one person said online.
“Sounds like a great idea for someone who is single and wants to make multiple smaller meals!” another said.
