Once Dad Found Out His Daughter Was In An Abusive Relationship, He Took Things Into His Own Hands

Dads are known for being protective of their daughters. As the father of a little girl, I get it. Dads spend so much of their time working toward keeping their family safe and healthy. That’s why when a girl in Missouri was brutally beaten by her boyfriend, her dad did the only thing he would think of – put out a hit on the lowlife who did it.

Because 20-year-old Chelsea Simmons nearly lost her life – and suffered permanent damage to her eye – her father was livid. The boyfriend (boy‘enemy’ seems more accurate) was 27-year-old Cedric Powe. The abuse basically left the young woman in a desperate situation. Her stepmother, Melissa Zach said:

“Apparently, he choked her until she passed out, brought her back, then choked her again and continually stomped on her head. She’s scared, and she probably will be forever.”

Abuse like that can leave scars on a person’s psyche. It seems like it will forever change the way young Chelsea looks at the world and relationships.

After he attacked Chelsea, Powe fled the area to the South Side of St. Louis. That’s when things got heated.

Chelsea’s father, Mark Zach, then decided to take matters into his own hands. He put up a $500 reward for anyone who would help the police track down Cedric Powe, his daughter’s attacker.

“He needs to be caught so that this doesn’t happen to anyone else, and I don’t have to worry about it happening to her ever again,” Melissa Zach said.

When Chelsea finally made it to the doctor, after a long session of abuse at the hands of Cedric Powe, the medical professionals said she had nearly been killed. Not only was she nearly murdered, but she will also suffer pain from the assault for the rest of her life unless she is lucky and it heals.

Powe does not have a good character. His criminal record shows that he has an inclination to violence. In 2008, he was arrested for another domestic battery charge as well as obstruction of justice. He pleaded guilty to the latter charge and spent a year behind bars. He was never convicted for the domestic battery charge.

Mark Zach is desperate to protect his daughter. After she was waylayed and choked by her former lover, Chelsea got a court-ordered restraining order against Powe. However, her father worries that this might not be enough. He doesn’t want Powe coming back and finishing what he started with Chelsea.

Chelsea’s dad knows that Powe has a history of not listening to the law. He previously violated orders of protection in 2008 and 2009. This meant to Chelsea’s dad that he was a dangerous man who no longer deserved to be anywhere near his daughter.

Zach was willing to put his money where his mouth was as he offered $500 to anyone who gave information to the police that led to the arrest of Powe.

What do you think about this dad’s relentless effort to hunt down his daughter’s abuser? Do you think the bounty will work?
