A wonderfully generous woman found herself on the receiving end of a very special gift from her adopted son. Ingeborg McIntosh fostered more than 120 children in her lifetime and one of the kids she took in, Jordan, eventually became a permanent part of her family. It wasn’t easy to adopt the boy that she raised as a foster child, however.
The boy’s biological mother wanted the child to be placed in a black family.
When no other families were found to adopt Jordan, McIntosh was finally able to become his mom when he was 4 years old. She said of their special bond: “They placed him in my arms and it was love at first sight,” adding, “He was a part of the family, no matter what.”
Fast forward to 20 years later, when McIntosh found out she had polycystic kidney disease and needed a kidney transplant. Jordan wanted to help his mother and, without her knowing it, he went to the doctor to see if he was a transplant match.
It turns out that fate played a role as Jordan was a match! He explained: “I feel like this was my calling in life, I guess. Hopefully, I can do more for her as I get older, but for the moment, it’s the least I could do.” The timing worked out that he could tell his mom about being a match on Mother’s Day.
McIntosh initially didn’t want Jordan to make the sacrifice, but he insisted on doing it for her. He explained, “Everything she’s done for me since I was a kid, I just wanted to give it back to her, and show her how much I appreciate her.”
What truly remarkable gifts they both gave each other.
Among the many comments on the YouTube video about their story were those who were moved by Jordan’s kind gesture.
