Not so long ago, Bridgestone/Firestone was forced to recall a staggering 6.5 million tires. Why? Because the treads of their tires started to separate on various models of Ford Explorers and Mercury Mountaineers. As it turned out, Ford was the company to make the fatal error, in favor of earning higher profits.

Safety engineers recommended that Ford make a change on the tires because it was not safe to use them as they were. But as tire after tire started to fail and more than 200 people were killed, and 3,000 accidents were caused, Ford realized their mistake.

Bridgestone spent $400 million on recalls and Ford faced $600 million in lawsuits. That’s a lot of cash to shell out.

When the product on the next page was found to be bad, it’s recall was huge!
