The Moment This German Shepherd Realized He’s At The Vet Has The Internet In Stitches

Dogs have excellent instincts. During my childhood, we had a smooth fox terrier. He was a wiry, energetic little guy who loved to run and jump. But nothing got him more excited than the possibility of a walk in the park. Even after we’d put the leash on him, he’d continue to grow more excited as we got closer to the destination because he had it memorized down to the last detail and smell.

But my dog, like most other dogs, never liked going to the vet. Although they always treated him kindly, he didn’t like the idea of having a needle stuck into his skin – none of us do. So whenever he realized when a particular car ride was not leading him to the local park but to the veterinarian’s office, he made sure to let us know. And he’d start reacting in a much different way than he had been before.

If this story sounds familiar to you, it probably is. Your dog might do the exact same thing. And in the video below, you’ll watch the moment that Enzo the German Shepherd realizes that he has been tricked. Despite his owner’s promises, Enzo did not wind up at the park. Instead, he looks out the car window and realizes he is in the vet’s parking lot. He throws a fit.

But Enzo’s stress began long before that. When he first entered the car, he was excited. Most times getting into the car meant he was going somewhere fun like the park or a friend’s house. Then he realized that it was not one of his owner’s familiar routes, and the German shepherd started to grow anxious.

When they pull into the parking lot, Enzo doesn’t have any more resistance. He breaks down and starts to shake in fear as the realization hits home finally. Although German Shepherds are courageous dogs, in this instance, Enzo has been ousted. The truth about his “tough guy” appearance breaks down, and he becomes a crying mess.

Although Enzo is a good pet and a great protector, he wasn’t ready to protect himself from the fear of the vet visit. Perhaps, the last time he was there, he felt a lot of pain and didn’t know how to respond to it.

According to the AKC, “There are many reasons why German Shepard dogs stand in the front rank of canine royalty, but experts say their defining attribute is character: Loyalty, courage, confidence, the ability to learn commands for many tasks, and the willingness to put their life on the line in defense of loved ones. German Shepherd dogs will be gentle family pets and steadfast guardians, but, the breed standard says, there’s a ‘certain aloofness that does not lend itself to immediate and indiscriminate friendships.”

Although Enzo is a brave animal, the vet got the better of him this time. And his owner got it all on tape to share with the world.

What do you think about Enzo, the German shepherd’s reaction to his vet visit?
