It seems like every other person you encounter these days is a vegan or a vegetarian. More and more people are adopting the animal-friendly lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean that everyone has to agree with it. Just ask members of a stag party who happened to be at a Brighton Steakhouse when vegan activists decided to storm in and voice their opinion.
While most of the restaurant patrons were unphased by the Direct Action Everywhere demonstrators who were holding up signs and repeatedly playing the sounds of cows being slaughtered, the stag members decided to fight back.
They stood up proudly, along with their hired Oompa Loompa impersonator and shouted, “Stand up if you love meat!” Their voices were catchy and some of the other patrons even felt compelled to stand up and join them. The stag members turned their meat chant into a catchy little tune as they raised their arms in the air and gathered on the opposite side of the restaurant from where the vegans were shouting, “It’s not meat, it’s violence.”
Since the incident, several videos have emerged online from both the meat lovers and the vegans. These videos shed more light on what happened behind the scenes and you can witness restaurant employees arguing with the vegans in an attempt to get them to leave. One vegan can be heard saying, “this smells horrible, look at all the flesh.”
According to a member of the stag party, 30-year-old Dan Holmes, the protest got out of hand…
“We felt they had said what they wanted to say and now it was time for them to go away and let people eat. We came up with some fun chants and the whole restaurant stood up when we sang ‘Stand up if you love meat.’
“A protest is fine, but they overstayed their welcome and were becoming annoying. If they had just had signs then that’s one thing, but playing sounds of animals being killed was going over the top. One of them was going around this table filming people eating and getting in their faces.”
The protest went on for 20 minutes inside the restaurant and continued outside the restaurant for another hour, causing quite a spectacle.
While Holmes and his pals fought back against the protestors he added that the incident actually ended up benefiting him and his pals who were from Ampthill in Bedfordshire. The group, which had been on a package stage party weekend, has said that their WhatsApp group has been going wild ever since the incident went viral.
“The most perfect bit was when we just blindfolded the groom and handcuffed him to the Oompa Loompa so the timing was great!”
A spokesperson from Direct Action Everywhere Brighton shared the following quote…
“In a time where we are experiencing mass environmental destruction, largely due to our unsustainable and unethical food choices, it is paramount that we put our egos and selfishness aside and accept that we are all connected, we are all animals. We can no longer ignore the suffering and pain we cause. We are not the only sentient beings that inhabit this planet.”
