If you’re like the millions of people who are afraid of clowns, then you suffer from Coulrophobia. Not only can clowns be extremely creepy – just look at Stephen King’s iconic character Pennywise the Dancing Clown from his hit novel and subsequent movies “IT.” However, there is a new trending going around that encourages people to have a clown deliver donuts directly to people’s houses – all you have to do is pay for it.
Clowns are a popular thing for people fast food restaurants. For example, Burger King handed out free Whopper sandwiches to the first 500 people who showed up to participating locations dressed as clowns. It was a hugely popular promotion for the fast-food restaurant. Although it was an incentive to dress as a clown to land a free meal, there is a business that has people dressed as clowns going around delivering donuts.
There was a poll conducted by Vox that indicated that Americans are more terrified of clowns on average than terrorism, climate change or death itself. The people who were most likely to be deathly afraid of clowns were those between the ages of 18 and 44.
Hurts Donut has encouraged customers to pay a fee to have a creepy clown deliver its goodies. Not only will the donuts be packed into a box, but a terrifying clown will hand-deliver the box of donuts to whomever you want them to. This could be a wonderful way to celebrate Halloween or to play a great April’s Fool prank on someone you love – or hate. Unfortunately, the promotion runs only for the month of October. Perhaps, when Hurts Donut finds out how popular the bizarre service is, they’ll institute it through more months of the year.
Unfortunately, Hurts Donut is regional donut shop and is not available to everyone around the United States. However, if you live in one of the following cities, you could hire their clown delivery service to give a friend or for a trick and a treat during the month of Halloween this year.
West Des Moines, IA
Oklahoma City, OK
Colorado City, CO
Kansas City, MO
Without a doubt, this trend is going to be popular for people who love the bizarre and want to give their friends or family members a surprise.
Why is it that so many Americans are terrified of clowns? Is it because you can’t know what they’re thinking with their perpetual smiles and laughter?
According to the Vox poll, 42 percent of Americans admit that they’re afraid of clowns. Among people from 18 to 29, about one in three admit that they have at least a minor form of coulrophobia. Part of the reason for this increase in America’s fear of clowns has to do with people dressing up as clowns and causing mayhem around the country.
