This Full House is all grown up and has had a long and happy marriage and a beautiful family. We’re talking about Candace Cameron, who met NHL hockey star Valeri Bure in 1995 at a charity hockey game. The rest, they say, is history. They were married two years later and recently celebrated their 22nd anniversary together. How has their marriage gone the distance though?
In a social media post, Candace explained that while their marriage “hasn’t been all roses,” they have overcome any challenges through their faith.
She wrote: “There have been several tough years, in a row, ups and downs, bad attitudes and bad decisions, but we’ve persevered. We rode them out. We loved each other through them. We kept the focus; God’s glory. We are both better for it.”
She continued: “I’m so grateful and thankful for the man I married. Neither of us are perfect, far from it, and will continue to make mistakes because we are human. But God’s Word and His grace see us through – striving to be the best of ourselves in Him. To God be the glory.”
Candace told People earlier this year that their relationship is solid because of their beliefs, noting: “The reality is the glue for us is Jesus. It’s the Bible. You know, when there are arguments or we’re compromising and in ways, it’s always like, ‘Well, let’s just go back to the Bible.’ It’s the foundation for us. So it’s not about winning or losing. But doing this journey together.”
The couple has three teenagers: Natasha, 19, Lev, 18 and Maksim, 16 and Candace noted that having open communication with their children is a priority. She explained: “It’s so important to engage with your kids constantly. I talk with them nonstop from really kind of intense and deep conversations to the fluffy stuff and the day-to-day. But it’s important to let them know that you’re there for them no matter what.”
She added: “As a mom, I’m always going to have an opinion, but not in a judgmental way, if that makes sense. I’m going to give my best advice as a mother, or my husband as a father. But we want to be open enough that they don’t feel scared to be able to talk to us.”
In 2017, for her husband’s birthday, Candace showed just how smitted she still is with her husband, posting a sweet pic of the two of them together on Instagram. She captioned the photo: “You’re like fine wine baby, so tasty and better with age. I love you.”
Among the flood of happy anniversary wishes the couple received on social media were those who agreed that the couple’s beliefs are part of the secret to a happy marriage. One fan noted: “Amen. Congrats on the 22 years of marriage. Encouraging to all married people. Forgiveness is one the biggest parts of a marriage. Trusting one another. Putting God first in each one’s lives and Him first in your marriage. May God blessings be with you both Candice.”
