Brooke Ochoa was raised right. Her parents taught her little life lessons to like always to be respectful to her elders and to always hold the door open for people when you can. That’s why Brooke was holding the door open at her local diner when she noticed an elderly woman approaching. However, Brooke never would have guessed that the simple act of holding a door open for a stranger would go on to change her life forever – but that was exactly what ended up happening.
As Brooke held the door open and gave the elderly woman a wide breadth to enter the restaurant, the two started talking. They exchanged a few pleasantries. Then the woman went ahead of Brooke and up to the hostess stand. That’s when Brooke heard something that was utterly unacceptable. The elderly woman was asking for a table for one. Brooke could not bear that to happen, so that’s why she rushed over to the old woman and asked her a simple question. Would you like to share a meal with me?
The elderly woman loved the young woman’s offer, and she immediately accepted. The pair then went on to share a meal together as if they were family.
Brooke shared an update about her adventure on social media.
“Today, I went to eat at a restaurant for lunch, and I saw this elder lady coming from afar, so I waited to hold the door for her. She was very thankful and sweet. She then told the waitress, ‘Table for one.’ So I waited and hesitated, but then I walked over and said, ‘I’m eating by myself, too. Would you like to have lunch together?’”
Little did Brooke know but that chance encounter would forever change the course of the pair’s lives.
Brooke and Delores exchanged names and all sorts of pleasantries. Then they got into the weeds with their lives, sharing details that they had hardly ever spoken about to anyone before.
“Come to find out, she spent the last decade living with her mom who recently passed away and her aunt who recently was put into a nursing home. So she has been having a hard time being alone. We had a wonderful talk, and she just kept smiling and saying thank you for listening to me, which made me smile too!”
Brooke was only too happy to share her lunch with Dolores. She loved hearing about her life experience and listening to her story. Brooke was also happy to share her news with her friends and followers on social media. Her story was so well received that it quickly garnered a shocking two million likes and has been shared nearly 300,000 times.
“Her worlds healed my heart just as much as I healed her lonely one. By far the best decision I’ve made all year! Her name is Delores, and we will be having lunch every Thursday from now on.”
Because Brooke gathered the courage to ask Dolores to share her lunch that day, she made a new friendship that will stand the test of time.
